This week’s star

This week our star brought in his many trophies, rock collections, and shared a lot of interesting pictures that helped us learn even more about him. We also got to find out about our star’s pen pal relationship with a boy from Calcutta, India. We saw pictures, learned about school uniforms, and the poverty that is so present in this city. Take a look at what we shared:

We will send this picture to our star's pen pal in India.

Star of the Week

Last week our star shared with us her many collections and read us a timeless classic by Dr. Seuss. She did a great job reading with expression and fluency, especially with all of those rhymes and tongues twisters. Later in the week I was happy to see that many students checked out Dr. Seuss books from the library.

Trivia questions: Do any third graders remember Dr. Seuss’ real name and where he was born?

First Grade Buddies

Last week we had the pleasure of visiting our first grade buddies in Mrs. Berry’s classroom. They practiced presenting their animal habitat projects and we got to ask questions about all of their hard work! Team 203 was very impressed with the animal knowledge of our buddies and the creativity in their projects! Take a look:

Our friend Aidan

We recently got an email from our good friend Aidan who moved to a different school. The class decided that they would all like to respond and tell him what we’ve been up to lately.

Here are a few things we want you to know for your return this April:

Remember our aquarium? Mrs. Coulombe took it apart already to make room for our terrariums. We will miss our salt water friends. -Celeste & Liam

We traveled to different classrooms to learn about different Native American tribes. We learned a lot, but don’t worry we can tell you what you missed.  Riley & Logan

We started our new Reading Street books and got new math journals. Don’t worry, even though we have new things we’ll catch you up! – Ajan & Shelby

We are going to start book talks soon. Instead of presenting all in one day like the science projects, we will present on different days in March and April. Keep watching our blog, we’ll try to post some videos of our books talks. – David, Sean, Tyler, and Alex

By the way, if you were wondering what a terrarium is . . . it’s like an aquarium except it grows plants and doesn’t hold water. They are on the windowsill and we’re also doing an experiment. It’s testing if plants grow taller and faster with or without direct sunlight. We miss you. – Xiaohan, Coleby, and Philip 🙂

Hi Aidan, our buddies shared with us a really neat science project. They shared animal habitats that they researched for over two weeks! We were really surprised and made the first graders feel confident about their projects. We miss you and can’t wait for you to come back. -Jack, Faith, Laurel, Anna, & Bryce
